Environmentalists complain about abuse of power by administrative authority
Representatives from Zulzagan Tugul Fellowship held a press conference on October 9 to report about an alleged illegal contract between the Mayor of 2nd baga of Yuruu soum in Selenge Province and local residents.
Leader of Zulzagan Tugul Fellowship Ch.Altantuya said that the mayor intentionally violated the rights of the fellowship and interfered in their operations.
“The Mayor of 2nd baga of Yuruu soum intentionally obstructed our operations, carried out illegal propaganda, violated the legal rights of the fellowship, and verbally abused us when we made a complaint,” Ch.Altantuya said.
“The mayor and land managers signed an illegal hay contract with soum residents and unregistered people on August 25, allowing them to use Khongor Valley, which is a property of Zulzagan Tugul Fellowship. This violates the rights given to the fellowship through the Law on Forests. I was treated unethically and insulted when I made a complaint. The fellowship paid a hay fee for 1,200 hectares and hired two people to harvest hay on contract, but they are refusing to give us a single bundle of hay because the mayor told them not to,” Ch.Altantuya stated at the press conference.
The fellowship representatives alleged that the mayor and land managers of 2nd baga of Yuruu soum illegally took ownership of the fellowship’s land as well.
Ch.Altantuya informed that she has reported these violations to the Selenge Province Police Department and asked related associations to thoroughly investigate the case unless they “wish for the fellowship to start a protest”.
