1 dead and 17 in­jured dur­ing New Year’s Eve celebration

The Gen­eral Po­lice De­part­ment was quite pleased to an­nounce that the num­ber of ca­su­al­ties and ac­ci­dents dur­ing the New Year’s Eve celebration had dropped by 15 per­cent com­pared to last year.

It was re­ported that the po­lice re­ceived 490 re­ports, out of which 352 were re­lated to traf­fic ac­ci­dents, from De­cem­ber 31 to Jan­uary 1, 2018. Due to th­ese ac­ci­dents, one per­son died while 11 adults and six chil­dren were left with mild in­juries. Re­ports show that there were 21 traf­fic col­li­sions, six cars hit a pedes­trian, one car over­turned, and three cars crashed into a prop­erty. The po­lice ar­rested 66 driv­ers driv­ing un­der the in­flu­ence of al­co­hol.

A grand to­tal of 122 po­lice of­fi­cers and vol­un­teers from the Law En­force­ment Uni­ver­sity of Mon­go­lia pa­trolled across the cap­i­tal to pre­vent crimes and en­sure pub­lic or­der and safety dur­ing the cel­e­bra­tions.

As of Jan­uary 2, no se­ri­ous ac­ci­dent or crime had oc­curred this year, the Gen­eral Po­lice De­part­ment stated.
