1 dead and 17 injured during New Year’s Eve celebration
The General Police Department was quite pleased to announce that the number of casualties and accidents during the New Year’s Eve celebration had dropped by 15 percent compared to last year.
It was reported that the police received 490 reports, out of which 352 were related to traffic accidents, from December 31 to January 1, 2018. Due to these accidents, one person died while 11 adults and six children were left with mild injuries. Reports show that there were 21 traffic collisions, six cars hit a pedestrian, one car overturned, and three cars crashed into a property. The police arrested 66 drivers driving under the influence of alcohol.
A grand total of 122 police officers and volunteers from the Law Enforcement University of Mongolia patrolled across the capital to prevent crimes and ensure public order and safety during the celebrations.
As of January 2, no serious accident or crime had occurred this year, the General Police Department stated.
