During a meeting of the Security and Foreign Policy Standing Committee held on Wednesday, some legislators pointed out that the Law on Water Transportation should be amended as poor laws and regulatory environment regarding water transportation negatively affect the ecosystems of domestic lakes and rivers.

MP L.Bold stated that people are using old boats that were used in other lakes or seas abraod in domestic fresh water lakes, but old boats are polluting lakes by bringing micro bacteria and toxic matters that live in a marine environment.

Legislator D.Terbishdagva emphasized, “People are bringing old cheap boats that are banned by foreign countries into domestic rivers and lakes. Removing toxic matters polluted by the boats from lakes or rivers will be very difficult, maybe impossible, few years later. Parliament should focus on adopting new amendments to the Law on Water Transportation, which will be put forward by some legislators to Parliament to resolve this environmental issue quickly.”
