Bar­ga­jin fes­ti­val starts in Dornod

The Bar­ga­jin 2018 in­ter­na­tional fes­ti­val is tak­ing place in Choibal­san soum of Dornod Province. The eth­nic fes­ti­val brings to­gether barga eth­nics from Dornod Province, Ku­rumkan and Bar­gu­jin prov­inces of Rus­sia, and In­ner Mon­go­lia Au­ton­o­mous Re­gion of China.

The fes­ti­val was first or­ga­nized in 2007 in Khu­lun­buir soum of Dornod Province with a pur­pose to en­rich cul­tural trea­sures of barga tra­di­tions and her­itage, re­store and dis­sem­i­nate barga cus­tom and pass down the tra­di­tions and cus­toms to younger gen­er­a­tions. Events of the fes­ti­val in­clude the three manly games, barga song com­pe­ti­tion and fash­ion con­test. More­over, a sci­en­tific con­fer­ence en­ti­tled “Press­ing is­sues in Barga Stud­ies” and a photo con­test ti­tled “Bar­ga­jin-I, II, III” are be­ing or­ga­nized.

In the open­ing, Mayor of Dornod Province M.Badamsuren said, “Eth­nic groups of Khalkh, Barga, Buryat, Uzem­chin and Kham­ni­gan have been liv­ing in the vast area of east­ern Mon­go­lia for long pe­ri­ods of time with their unique ways of life, tra­di­tions and cus­toms. In the 21st cen­tury, the eth­nic groups en­coun­tered the ne­ces­sity to re­store, safe­guard and in­herit the abun­dant her­itages of their his­tory, cul­ture and tra­di­tions. Barga is Mon­go­lia’s eth­nic group which played an im­por­tant role in the his­tory of na­tional free­dom and in­de­pen­dence.”
