Hon­our­ing U Win Tin

One of the most fa­mous ac­tivists in Myan­mar his­tory, Han­thawaddy U Win Tin, was hon­oured on De­cem­ber 11 at a cer­e­mony in the PEN Myan­mar of­fice at Pazun­daung Street, Yan­gon, where a sculp­ture made by artist Jim McNalis was un­veiled. McNalis has been fol­low­ing Myan­mar af­fairs for twenty years and ear­lier pro­duced sculp­tures of Daw Aung San Suu Kyi, U Min Ko Naing, the Mous­tache Brothers Par Par Gyi and Par Par Lay, and Dr. Cyn­thia Maung, the founder of the Mae Tao Clinic in Mae Sot, Thai­land. The sculp­ture of U Win Tin, whose death ear­lier this year led to na­tional mourn­ing, is made of red clay from Myan­mar and Italy and will be dis­played at PEN Myan­mar's premises, an or­gan­i­sa­tion of which U Win Tin was board mem­ber.
