Nay Pyi Taw ob­serves World Pop­u­la­tion Day

World Pop­u­la­tion Day was cel­e­brated in Nay Pyi Taw on July 11 with the theme “Fam­ily Plan­ning: Em­pow­er­ing Peo­ple, De­vel­op­ing Na­tions,” re­ported the state-run news­pa­per The Global New Light of Myan­mar.

Dur­ing the event the Vice Pres­i­dent Myint Swe ex­plained the gains brought by Myan­mar but stress­ing the need to im­prove ac­cess to con­tra­cep­tives for the coun­try’s women. He said Myan­mar could in­crease in per­cent­age of those us­ing con­tra­cep­tives.

“It is found that the num­ber of mar­ried women in Myan­mar who prac­tice mod­ern fam­ily plan­ning meth­ods has reached 51 per­cent in 2015, an in­crease of 38 per­cent since 2007”, the Vice Pres­i­dent was quoted by the news­pa­per as say­ing. To­day, 52 per­cent of mar­ried women in Myan­mar prac­tice fam­ily plan­ning.
