Nay Pyi Taw observes World Population Day
World Population Day was celebrated in Nay Pyi Taw on July 11 with the theme “Family Planning: Empowering People, Developing Nations,” reported the state-run newspaper The Global New Light of Myanmar.
During the event the Vice President Myint Swe explained the gains brought by Myanmar but stressing the need to improve access to contraceptives for the country’s women. He said Myanmar could increase in percentage of those using contraceptives.
“It is found that the number of married women in Myanmar who practice modern family planning methods has reached 51 percent in 2015, an increase of 38 percent since 2007”, the Vice President was quoted by the newspaper as saying. Today, 52 percent of married women in Myanmar practice family planning.
