YANGON Municipality and the pollution control and cleaning department will support the 4th Clean Yangon Campaign, said U Zaw Win Naing, head assistant of the pollution control and cleaning department.

The municipality always partakes in the Clean Yangon Campaign by supplying people and material to the effort.

“The waste problem does not only concern the municipality but also the people. We can manage the issue with the help of the public,” he said

This campaign raises awareness about the garbage issue. This is the campaign’s fourth iteration. This time, there will be over a thousand volunteers dispatched in about 40 groups. The municipality will provide over 50 people, six mini-garbage trucks, two big rubbish trucks and trash-bags for this campaign, he added.

“Our team split in four groups for the campaign. It will take place in Kamaryut township. Team 1 will cover University Road; Team 2 will work along Insein Road; Team 3 will be in U Htun Lin Chan Road; and Team 4 will be under the Hledan Crossover. Each team will collect waste and raise awareness,” said U Sann Maung Maung, the coordinator of the Clean Yangon Campaign. This campaign focuses on crowded and flooded places. The slogan of the campaign is “Lend a hand for a clean and green Yangon”.

“Yangon always faces floods during the rainy season which disrupts the garbage and ditch system. We have to solve the issue by ourselves,” U Sann Maung Maung said.

Yangon works in co-ordination with 45 townships which produce about 2700 tons of rubbish a day. Flooding always happens in crowded areas like Kamaryut township and downtown.
