Shwe Kyin appoints renowned monks as deputies
SHWE Kyin Nikaya religious order in Hmawbi township of Yangon has appointed Si Shin Say ada wand Nan dam a lab hi va ms a as deputy head soft he religious sect.
Bhaddanta Vizawta, chair of Shwe Kyin, made the announcement at the monastic order’s 20th meeting at Say Kane Na Rama monastery in Hmawbi Wednesday morning.
Shwe Kyin’s head monks are Bhaddanta Marnita Thiri Biwuntha of Mattaya Thahtay monastery and Sitagu Sayadaw Ashin Nyanissara.
Si Shin Sayadaw Bhaddanta Agga Nyana Biwuntha, 82, has 60 years in the monkhood in Mandalay Region, and is wellversed in Pali literature.
Nan dam a lab hi va ms a ,79, is the rector of the International Theravada Buddhist Missionary University in Yangon, and has 59 years of service in the monkhood.
On the second day of the meeting, former President U Thein Sein and U Than Htay, chair of the Union Solidarity and Development Party, attended the meeting. Commanderin-chief of Defence Services Senior General Min Aung Hlaing attended the meeting on the third day.
There are over 550,000 monks in Myanmar, of which the Thudhamma order has the biggest share, with nearly 500,000. Shwe Kyin is the second largest with 50,000 monks. The other seven sects are Maha Dwara, Mula Dwara, Anauk Chaung Dwara, Wailu Wun, Hngettwin, Maha Yin and Ku Toe.
