BANGKOK Thai cou­ple tak­ing selfie on rail track hit by train

Two young peo­ple try­ing to take a selfie on a rail­way track were hit by a pas­sen­ger train and se­verely in­jured at Sam­sen sta­tion in Bangkok’s Phaya Thai district early Thurs­day.

The pair, a man and woman who work to­gether, had been drink­ing nearby be­fore they went down onto the track to take self­ies with an ap­proach­ing train on the other track at around 4:30am.

They failed to no­tice that there was another train ap­proach­ing the sta­tion on the track they were on, Thai me­dia re­ported, and the short-haul Bangkokrangsit ser­vice ran over them.

The woman, iden­ti­fied only as Walailuck, 28, lost her right leg. She was left ly­ing be­neath the train, and her sev­ered right leg was be­side the track. Res­cue work­ers rushed her to Ra­math­i­bodi Hos­pi­tal.

The man, iden­ti­fied only as Am­nart, 24, was knocked off the track and sus­tained se­vere head in­juries. He was rushed to Vachira Hos­pi­tal, said Pol Capt Wit­sanu Sak­sueb-in, deputy in­ves­ti­ga­tion chief at Nop­pa­wong po­lice sta­tion. Po­lice are in­ves­ti­gat­ing. –
