Five fugitives give up life of crime
FIVE men, wanted for thefts and robberies along the Ayeyarwady River, turned themselves in at the Sagaing Police Station this week.
The fugitives contacted Pyithu Hluttaw MP U Khin Maung Thein (NLD; Sagaing), claiming that they wanted to atone for their crimes and pay back their debts. The parliamentarian contacted the police, according to the MP’s aide Ko Khine Zaw Lin.
Ko Kywel Gyi (aka Zaw Min Oo), Ko Maung Oo, Ko Chit Chaw and Ko Soe Soe turned themselves in for arrest on July 23, while Nga Tun (aka Ko Tun Tun) turned himself in the following day.
Police Lieutenant Colonel Mya Thin of the Sagaing District Police Force charged them as fugitives. “They committed crimes and ran away,” he said.
The fugitives said their decision to turn themselves in was entirely of their own volition.
“I think it will benefit my family so I asked for help from Ko Khine Zaw Lin and U Khin Maung Thein. We had committed many crimes. I want to pay those debts with sweat and I will not commit crimes any more,” said Ko Kywel Gyi.
