Po­lice shoot drunk man wield­ing two long knives

South Dagon po­lice shot a 35-year-old man in the thigh on the af­ter­noon of Au­gust 11 for al­legedly be­ing drunk and slash­ing at them with two knives.

Po­lice got word that Thet Khine Win was act­ing un­ruly in Num­ber 56 ward and went to check on him. When they ar­rived, they said, they tried to ar­rest him peace­fully but he struck them with two 8-inch knives, so they shot and wounded him. He was taken to Thin­gangyun San Pya Hospi­tal.

Thet Khine Win had been ar­rested in the past for dis­turb­ing the peace, and in July was or­dered to check in with the po­lice ev­ery 15 days for six months.

Now he is fac­ing charges that could carry up to two years in prison.
