Duo charged with kid­nap and rape of 13-year-old girl

A miss­ing 13-year-old South Dagon town­ship girl, who had not been seen by her fam­ily since Au­gust 8, was found alive on Au­gust 12. Po­lice are charg­ing two teenagers with kid­nap and rape. The girl was sup­posed to go to school with friends on Au­gust 8 but when she did not show up she was re­ported miss­ing. Po­lice found her in Peo­ple’s Park four days later.

Ac­cord­ing to the girl, she slept at the park on the first night and then met Aung Phyo Oo, 19, and Saw Yan Naing, 18, who took her to an inn in Hlaing Thar­yar town­ship. Then they left her back at the park, telling her they would find her a job. Kid­nap­ping and rape charges could re­sult in sen­tences up to life im­pris­on­ment. – Toe Wai Aung, trans­la­tion by Khant Lin Oo
