Duo charged with kidnap and rape of 13-year-old girl
A missing 13-year-old South Dagon township girl, who had not been seen by her family since August 8, was found alive on August 12. Police are charging two teenagers with kidnap and rape. The girl was supposed to go to school with friends on August 8 but when she did not show up she was reported missing. Police found her in People’s Park four days later.
According to the girl, she slept at the park on the first night and then met Aung Phyo Oo, 19, and Saw Yan Naing, 18, who took her to an inn in Hlaing Tharyar township. Then they left her back at the park, telling her they would find her a job. Kidnapping and rape charges could result in sentences up to life imprisonment. – Toe Wai Aung, translation by Khant Lin Oo
