Speed­ing bus driver kills mo­tor­cy­clist

A BUS driver is fac­ing crim­i­nal charges af­ter be­ing in­volved in a series of deadly col­li­sions in the early hours of Au­gust 17. Ko Wai Lin Maung, 37, who lives in Kayan town­ship, Yan­gon Re­gion, was driv­ing his Fuso pas­sen­ger bus to­ward Yan­gon along Than­lyin Thone Kwa Road near Pha­yar Gone vil­lage when he lost con­trol at speed, col­lid­ing with a Hyundai bus ahead of him, driven by Ko Zaw Win, 43. An on­com­ing Toy­ota Belta and a mo­tor­bike rid­den by Ko Tun Zarni Kyaw were struck by the un­fold­ing col­li­sion, as the bus crashed through Daw San San Myint’s restau­rant and into an elec­tric pole.

The mo­tor­cy­clist died at the scene, and driver Ko Wai Lin Maung and pas­sen­gers Ma Than Htay and Ko Chit Min Aung were ad­mit­ted to Than­lyin Hos­pi­tal with head in­juries. The dam­age was es­ti­mated at K1.5 mil­lion.

Po­lice Lieu­tenant Nay Lin Oo has opened a case against the driver for neg­li­gence un­der sec­tions 304(a), 338, 337 and 279 of the pe­nal code at Than­lyin po­lice sta­tion.
