Speeding bus driver kills motorcyclist
A BUS driver is facing criminal charges after being involved in a series of deadly collisions in the early hours of August 17. Ko Wai Lin Maung, 37, who lives in Kayan township, Yangon Region, was driving his Fuso passenger bus toward Yangon along Thanlyin Thone Kwa Road near Phayar Gone village when he lost control at speed, colliding with a Hyundai bus ahead of him, driven by Ko Zaw Win, 43. An oncoming Toyota Belta and a motorbike ridden by Ko Tun Zarni Kyaw were struck by the unfolding collision, as the bus crashed through Daw San San Myint’s restaurant and into an electric pole.
The motorcyclist died at the scene, and driver Ko Wai Lin Maung and passengers Ma Than Htay and Ko Chit Min Aung were admitted to Thanlyin Hospital with head injuries. The damage was estimated at K1.5 million.
Police Lieutenant Nay Lin Oo has opened a case against the driver for negligence under sections 304(a), 338, 337 and 279 of the penal code at Thanlyin police station.
