2 held for try­ing to join IS in Syria

Sin­ga­pore has de­tained two men un­der its tough in­ter­nal se­cu­rity law af­ter dis­cov­er­ing they in­tended to travel to Syria to fight for the Is­lamic State group. Rosli Hamzah, 50, and Mo­hamed Omar Ma­hadi, 33, are be­ing held un­der the In­ter­nal Se­cu­rity Act, which al­lows for de­ten­tion with­out trial, the Min­istry of Home Af­fairs said. Mr Rosli worked as a car washer. Mr Omar, a waste truck driver, had made prepa­ra­tions with his wife and chil­dren to travel to Syria to join the IS.
