Stars align for duet performance
FINALLY, after more than two decades spent pursuing their separate careers, Sithu Lwin and Tin Zar Maw are getting it together. The two will take part in a live duet concert on August 27 called “Beyond the 21st Duet Live”, to take place at the Myanmar Convention Centre.
The two best friends, each with a successful career, attended the same singing class and have each won many singing contests over the past 21 years.
“We should have done a live show like this a long time ago. It’s happening now because there are people and media management to support us. I’m particularly grateful to Myanmar Media Management, which is planning the live show,” said Tin Zar Maw, who has just completed her one-woman show in Taunggyi.
Myanmar Media Management executive director Ko Soe Thura Shwe said, “We’ve been planning this event for the past three years, ever since Tin Zar Maw came back to Yangon for her birthday show. They’re both best friends, but they’ve never done an act like this together in their whole career. It’s time for a debut live show that is something really special. That’s why we decided to arrange this event.”
The pair will perform with two separate sections, acoustic and full band. “So far, the plan is that we will sing 12 solo songs each and four duets, then another duet with our friend Chaw Su Khin that all three of us used to sing together,” said Tin Zar Maw.
“I plan to sing some songs from my past albums which I don’t usually sing in live shows because I don’t want the audience to think I’m just singing the same old popular songs. But I’ll also perform the songs my fans demand,” said Sithu Lwin.
He added, “I’m really happy that we’re both working together on a special event like this. I hope our two sets of fans will have fun and enjoy the evening.”
Ticket prices are K10,000, K20,000, K30,000 and K40,000, and can be bought at The Sun Music Production, Mann Thiri Recording, 1876 Hot Line and Myanmar Media Management on the 12nd floor of Dagon Centre 2. There will be 1500 tickets sold. The show will start at 7pm.
The pair also plan a duet album. “We discussed an album last year, but we haven’t started anything yet. I hope we can launch it next February in time for Valentine’s Day if we push each other to do our recording as fast as we can,” said Tin Zar Maw.
Sithu Lwin and Tin Zar Maw will deliver a joint concert on August 27, bringing together two of Myanmar’s most popular singers.
