Apple decision not against US, says EC
EUROPEAN authorities’ decision to slap Apple with a huge bill for back taxes was not a decision “against the US”, European Commission chief Jean-Claude Juncker said yesterday.
The US$14.5 billion demand for payment from Apple has raised hackles in the US, with the White House decrying it as a “unilateral” approach to rewriting global taxation norms.
“It would be absurd to choose this territory of state taxation to attack the USA,” Mr Juncker said, adding that most of the EC’s measures were against European companies. –
