Teak traffickers busted in Hmawbi
Police stopped a bus packed with illegal teak at a toll gate in Hmawbi township on September 3.
The bus, which had five passengers, pulled up to the gate at about 7am. Police found 89 wooden doors, including some made of teak, underneath a tarp inside the bus’ storage section and underneath two passengers. The driver, Ko Zaw Win Naing, fled and has not been caught. The five passengers were arrested. If convicted under the Forestry Law, they stand to face up to seven years in prison. wounds to the leg.
The crash caused K120,000 worth of damage to the bike and billboard. If caught, the driver could face up to 15 years in prison.
