Sam­sung Myan­mar sus­pends roll-out of Galaxy Note 7

AMID Sam­sung’s global re­call of its Galaxy Note 7 smart­phone, the elec­tron­ics gi­ant’s lo­cal dis­trib­u­tor said yes­ter­day that cus­tomers who have pre-or­dered the de­vice lo­cally would re­ceive a safety-tested work­ing model in Oc­to­ber.

Last week Sam­sung an­nounced the re­call of mil­lions of Galaxy Note 7 smart­phones as cus­tomers have re­ported cases of bat­tery fires.

U Zarni Win Htet, head of IT and Mo­bile from Sam­sung Myan­mar, said yes­ter­day that the smart­phone was not due to launch lo­cally un­til Septem­ber 11, but this would be pushed back to next month, due to the re­call.

“We will ex­change pre-or­ders for new smart­phones that have been in­spected for er­rors,” he said. “This will start in Oc­to­ber.”

Pre-or­der cus­tomers who pre­fer to get their money back can do so this month, he added.

U Zarni Win Htet said that more than 100 Galaxy Note 7 smart­phones had been pre-or­dered in Myan­mar, but he de­clined to give a spe­cific num­ber.
