Beau­ti­ful AFF opener for Myan­mar’s U-19 side in Viet­nam

MYAN­MAR’s un­der-19 squad got their 2016 AFF U-19 cham­pi­onships cam­paign off to a strong start yes­ter­day, beat­ing In­done­sia 3-2 at the Viet­nam youth train­ing cen­tre in Hanoi.

The hard-fought match be­gan with a flurry of ac­tion, as Myan­mar’s Aung Kaung Mann’s 12thminute open­ing goal was matched by In­done­sia’s Lestaluhu 17th-minute equaliser.

Myan­mar took the lead again with a strike from Zwe Thet Paing in the 28th minute, but their lead was short­lived, as In­done­sia’s Sandi Pratama struck back in the 44th, shut­ting the first half in a 2-2 draw.

Both sides re­sponded with ag­gres­sive at­tack­ing strate­gies in the sec­ond half, but it was Myan­mar’s striker Shwe Ko who broke through in the 55th minute, clinch­ing three points for his side.

In the day’s pre­vi­ous ac­tion, Thai­land de­feated Laos 1-0 at Hang Day sta­dium, while on Septem­ber 11, Ti­mor-Leste beat the Philip­pines 2-1, and Sin­ga­pore and Viet­nam drew 0-0.

The tour­na­ment runs through Septem­ber 24 and opens with a group stage that di­vides the field, with hosts Viet­nam, Sin­ga­pore, Malaysia, Philip­ines and Ti­mor-Leste in Group A and Aus­tralia, Thai­land, In­done­sia, Cam­bo­dia, Laos and Myan­mar in Group B.

Myan­mar will have a chance to cap­i­talise on their first-match mo­men­tum against Aus­tralia to­mor­row at 3:30pm.
