Beautiful AFF opener for Myanmar’s U-19 side in Vietnam
MYANMAR’s under-19 squad got their 2016 AFF U-19 championships campaign off to a strong start yesterday, beating Indonesia 3-2 at the Vietnam youth training centre in Hanoi.
The hard-fought match began with a flurry of action, as Myanmar’s Aung Kaung Mann’s 12thminute opening goal was matched by Indonesia’s Lestaluhu 17th-minute equaliser.
Myanmar took the lead again with a strike from Zwe Thet Paing in the 28th minute, but their lead was shortlived, as Indonesia’s Sandi Pratama struck back in the 44th, shutting the first half in a 2-2 draw.
Both sides responded with aggressive attacking strategies in the second half, but it was Myanmar’s striker Shwe Ko who broke through in the 55th minute, clinching three points for his side.
In the day’s previous action, Thailand defeated Laos 1-0 at Hang Day stadium, while on September 11, Timor-Leste beat the Philippines 2-1, and Singapore and Vietnam drew 0-0.
The tournament runs through September 24 and opens with a group stage that divides the field, with hosts Vietnam, Singapore, Malaysia, Philipines and Timor-Leste in Group A and Australia, Thailand, Indonesia, Cambodia, Laos and Myanmar in Group B.
Myanmar will have a chance to capitalise on their first-match momentum against Australia tomorrow at 3:30pm.
