Young worker crushed to death at paper factory
A teenage worker at a paper mill was crushed to death while trying to do maintenance work on September 15.
Ko Zin Ko Htet, 18, from Hlaing Tharyar township was working a red-eye shift at the Yar Su Thit paper factory when the machine stopped working around 2am. He stopped the machine to investigate the malfunction.
Shortly after the machines were stopped, shift leader Ko Win Zaw Oo, 31, was looking for Ko Zin Ko Htet on the floor of the factory compound and, not finding him, assumed he was sleeping. Ko Win Zaw Oo restarted the paper grinding process.
Around 3am, workers discovered tatters of the teenager’s clothes ejected by the machine. Soon after they discovered he had been killed, and called police.
