12 students score Chevening scholarships
A DOZEN Myanmar students received Chevening scholarships for study in the UK this academic year, the most ever awarded in the country.
The scholarship, which is funded by the British government, allows students from 160 countries and territories outside the United States and the European Union to take courses at universities in the United Kingdom.
Nearly 100 Myanmar students applied, but this year’s 12 winners topped last year’s total of 11.
In recent years, 52 students from Myanmar have completed Chevening scholarships.
Founded in 1983, the program typically supports one-year master’s degrees for individuals who show strong leadership qualities.
“The students who want to get a Chevening scholarship must have ambition and also learn and prepare and decide where they want to attend and what subject they want to learn,” said one of this year’s winners, Ma Anizali Kyaw Phyo.
Applications for next year’s scholarship are open until November 8.
