Gas­coigne fined for racism of­fence

For­mer Eng­land foot­baller Paul Gas­coigne was fined £1000 (US$1305) and or­dered to pay £1000 in com­pen­sa­tion for mak­ing a racist com­ment to a black se­cu­rity guard at his “An Evening With Gazza” show last year. Mr Gas­coigne, 49, had hu­mil­i­ated Er­rol Rowe, who was pro­tect­ing him dur­ing his per­for­mance in Wolver­hamp­ton on Novem­ber 30 last year, by ask­ing him, “Can you smile please, be­cause I can’t see you?” Be­fore sen­tenc­ing, the judge told him, “I ac­cept that you grew up in a dif­fer­ent time. We live in the 21st cen­tury. Grow up and live in it or keep your mouth closed Mr Gas­coigne.”
