Iran awards peace prize to two Myan­mar religious lead­ers

Iran’s Min­istry of Cul­ture has recog­nised two Myan­mar nationals at a cer­e­mony in Man­dalay. The event, at­tended by sev­eral Na­tional League for Democ­racy mem­bers, feted Khal­ifa U Thein Win Aung, a leader from the Is­lamic Sufi com­mu­nity in Man­dalay, and Ashin Ku­mara, an as­sis­tant rec­tor from Thitagu World Bud­dhist Univer­sity, for their ac­tions pro­mot­ing peace. Speak­ing at the cer­e­mony, both com­mu­nity lead­ers ad­vo­cated religious tol­er­ance and non-dis­crim­i­na­tion. Man­dalay Re­gional Min­is­ter U Sai Kyaw Zaw and Man­dalay NLD Chair U Tin Htut Oo both ex­pressed their pride in the in­di­vid­u­als re­ceiv­ing recog­ni­tion.
