NY com­muter train de­rail­ment leaves 33 in­jured

A New York City com­muter train sideswiped a main­te­nance train and de­railed, leav­ing 33 peo­ple in­jured, au­thor­i­ties said. Four of those in­jured are in se­ri­ous con­di­tion. The mishap oc­curred 30 kilo­me­tres (20 miles) east of the city. The work train, used for track main­te­nance, “vi­o­lated the clear­ance” of the pas­sen­ger train, the first three cars of which de­railed. The trains were headed in the same di­rec­tion.
