Ar­gen­tine court fines Catholic church for sex abuse

A court in Buenos Aires or­dered the Catholic Church to pay US$50,000 to a former sem­i­nar­ian who al­leged he was sex­u­ally abused some 25 years ago by an Ar­gen­tine arch­bishop. The break­through rul­ing is the first civil court judg­ment against the ma­jor­ity Ro­man Catholic church in Ar­gentina, le­gal ex­perts said. Sem­i­nary stu­dent Ruben Descalzo filed a law­suit claim­ing he was sex­u­ally as­saulted by late Arch­bishop Edgardo Storni in 1992.
