Toe lost in firecracker accident
A MAN lost a toe after a firecracker exploded at his feet during a festival celebrating Thadingyut, police say.
Ko Kyaw San Oo, also known as Ko Thaung Htay, from Aung Myay Tharzan township was attending a festival at Kyauk Taw Gyi Pagoda with his family on October 15 when two young revelers threw a firecracker into the crowd.
The cracker exploded under Ko Kyaw San Oo’s right foot. He was taken to Mandalay General Hospital where one of his toes was amputated.
Local police identified Ko Kaung Tay Za Toe, 21, and Ko Aung Ko Myint, 17, as the firecracker throwers.
The injured man’s brother-in-law filed a complaint later that day at the township police station against the two men, who are facing charges under Myanmar’s penal code for negligent conduct with respect to explosive substances and for the more serious charge of voluntarily causing grievous hurt by dangerous weapons.
If found guilty, the men may face up to 10 years in jail. – Than Naing Soe, translation by Zar Zar Soe
