Toe lost in fire­cracker ac­ci­dent

A MAN lost a toe af­ter a fire­cracker ex­ploded at his feet dur­ing a fes­ti­val cel­e­brat­ing Thad­ingyut, po­lice say.

Ko Kyaw San Oo, also known as Ko Thaung Htay, from Aung Myay Tharzan town­ship was at­tend­ing a fes­ti­val at Kyauk Taw Gyi Pagoda with his fam­ily on Oc­to­ber 15 when two young rev­el­ers threw a fire­cracker into the crowd.

The cracker ex­ploded un­der Ko Kyaw San Oo’s right foot. He was taken to Man­dalay Gen­eral Hos­pi­tal where one of his toes was am­pu­tated.

Lo­cal po­lice iden­ti­fied Ko Kaung Tay Za Toe, 21, and Ko Aung Ko Myint, 17, as the fire­cracker throw­ers.

The in­jured man’s brother-in-law filed a com­plaint later that day at the town­ship po­lice sta­tion against the two men, who are fac­ing charges un­der Myan­mar’s pe­nal code for neg­li­gent con­duct with re­spect to ex­plo­sive sub­stances and for the more se­ri­ous charge of vol­un­tar­ily caus­ing griev­ous hurt by dan­ger­ous weapons.
