Gem lab in Sagaing to be finished in January
THE Sagaing Gems Entrepreneurs Association broke ground on a gem laboratory in Sagaing town yesterday, aiming to make it easier for local traders to check the quality of their precious stones.
The facility, which is being constructed with a contribution of K200 million from the head of the association, will help assess the value and test the authenticity of the gems, according to U Aung Gyi, chair of the association.
“We expect to open in the last week of January next year,” he said.
The new lab will make it easier for gem sellers to do business, he added.
“Gems are usually checked at the private laboratory in Mandalay, but when it is opened in here, it will save time and money,” said U Aung Gyi. “And also, the gems can be traded with a guarantee.”
