Fac­tory work­ers charged with as­sault­ing po­lice

A num­ber of un­ruly work­ers from a Man­dalay be­tel nut fac­tory have been charged fol­low­ing a boozy brawl with po­lice.

Of­fi­cers re­sponded to com­plaints of dis­or­derly be­haviour and pub­lic drink­ing out­side the Thein Min Htay fac­tory in Man­dalay’s west Chan Aye Tharzan town­ship.

When four of­fi­cers ar­rived at the fac­tory, the work­ers ob­jected to their at­tempts to break up the party and a fight en­sued.

Two of­fi­cers re­ceived mi­nor abra­sions in the quar­rel.

Re­in­force­ments soon ar­rived and 16 po­lice of­fi­cers were able to sub­due the eight un­ruly work­ers fol­low­ing an­other al­ter­ca­tion.

Charges have been laid against the work­ers un­der sec­tions 294, 332 and 333 of the pe­nal code. Po­lice are also in­ves­ti­gat­ing whether il­licit drugs were in­volved in the as­sault.
