Factory workers charged with assaulting police
A number of unruly workers from a Mandalay betel nut factory have been charged following a boozy brawl with police.
Officers responded to complaints of disorderly behaviour and public drinking outside the Thein Min Htay factory in Mandalay’s west Chan Aye Tharzan township.
When four officers arrived at the factory, the workers objected to their attempts to break up the party and a fight ensued.
Two officers received minor abrasions in the quarrel.
Reinforcements soon arrived and 16 police officers were able to subdue the eight unruly workers following another altercation.
Charges have been laid against the workers under sections 294, 332 and 333 of the penal code. Police are also investigating whether illicit drugs were involved in the assault.
