One killed, two wounded in taxi crash

A 32-year-old man was killed and two others were in­jured af­ter they were struck by an er­rant taxi in Min­gal­adon town­ship on Novem­ber 1.

U Htein Lin, 53, of Min­gal­adon, crashed into an­other cab driven by Ko Za­yar Pyae Phyo Lwin, 27, of North Dagon, near the Rakhine Kyaung bus stop. Af­ter the crash, U Htein Lin ac­cel­er­ated, strik­ing U Kyi Thar, who was stand­ing on the side of the road, and then Ko Tin Htun Aung, 32, who was re­pair­ing a bus. Ko Tin Htun died on the way to hos­pi­tal. Both Ko Za­yar Pyae Phyo and U Kyi Thar sus­tained in­juries.

U Htein Lin is be­ing charged un­der sec­tions 304(a), 338 and 279 of the pe­nal code, for neg­li­gent homi­cide, caus­ing griev­ous in­jury, and dan­ger­ous driv­ing. If con­victed on all counts, he could face up to 14 years in prison. un­der sec­tion 285 of the pe­nal code, for neg­li­gence re­lat­ing to fire. for sex­ual as­sault and rape. He could face more than 12 years in prison.
