One killed, two wounded in taxi crash
A 32-year-old man was killed and two others were injured after they were struck by an errant taxi in Mingaladon township on November 1.
U Htein Lin, 53, of Mingaladon, crashed into another cab driven by Ko Zayar Pyae Phyo Lwin, 27, of North Dagon, near the Rakhine Kyaung bus stop. After the crash, U Htein Lin accelerated, striking U Kyi Thar, who was standing on the side of the road, and then Ko Tin Htun Aung, 32, who was repairing a bus. Ko Tin Htun died on the way to hospital. Both Ko Zayar Pyae Phyo and U Kyi Thar sustained injuries.
U Htein Lin is being charged under sections 304(a), 338 and 279 of the penal code, for negligent homicide, causing grievous injury, and dangerous driving. If convicted on all counts, he could face up to 14 years in prison. under section 285 of the penal code, for negligence relating to fire. for sexual assault and rape. He could face more than 12 years in prison.
