Fire caused by shrine dam­ages five shops

A fire in Hlaing Thar­yar town­ship caused by a shrine light re­sulted in more than K2.5 mil­lion in dam­age on Novem­ber 1, po­lice said.

At about 7:15pm the Buddha shrine sit­ting high up in a shop on Malarmyaing 3rd Street in the 16th ward top­pled to the ground, set­ting the store on fire. The fire was put out by 70 fire­fight­ers and 11 fire en­gines at about 7:35pm, but not be­fore five other shops caught fire, caus­ing K2,560,000 (US$2000) in dam­age. The shop owner, Daw Than Than Swe aka Daw Tayokema, 45, is be­ing charged
