Taxi driver stabs passenger over fare dispute
A dispute over a motorcycle taxi fare led the unidentified driver to gash his passenger and flee the scene on November 5 in Yangon. After hiring the man at the Aung Mingalar Highway Bus Station, U Aung Win of Myanaung township, Ayeyarwady Region, consented to being joined by a companion of the driver. The three men later stopped for beers.
The victim says his driver agreed to a K5000 fare to take him to Hlaing Tharyar township, but later changed his rate and demanded K15,000. In the ensuing quarrel, U Aung Win was stabbed in the neck with a sharp object and the driver fled.
U Aung Win was taken to North Okkalapa Hospital. Police have opened a case and the investigation is ongoing.
