Taxi driver stabs pas­sen­ger over fare dis­pute

A dis­pute over a mo­tor­cy­cle taxi fare led the uniden­ti­fied driver to gash his pas­sen­ger and flee the scene on Novem­ber 5 in Yangon. Af­ter hir­ing the man at the Aung Min­galar High­way Bus Sta­tion, U Aung Win of Myanaung town­ship, Aye­yarwady Re­gion, con­sented to be­ing joined by a com­pan­ion of the driver. The three men later stopped for beers.

The vic­tim says his driver agreed to a K5000 fare to take him to Hlaing Thar­yar town­ship, but later changed his rate and de­manded K15,000. In the en­su­ing quar­rel, U Aung Win was stabbed in the neck with a sharp ob­ject and the driver fled.

U Aung Win was taken to North Okkalapa Hos­pi­tal. Po­lice have opened a case and the in­ves­ti­ga­tion is on­go­ing.
