Ele­phant killed by at-large poach­ers

A dis­mem­bered ele­phant head and tusk were found 300 feet from its body near a stream east of Okkan Chaung Sauk village on Novem­ber 9 according to for­est of­fi­cial, Thet Naing Oo from Taikkyi town­ship’s Depart­ment of Forestry. The ele­phant was killed four days prior by poach­ers who now face sen­tences up to seven years and fines of K50,000 un­der sec­tion 37(a) of the Pro­tec­tion of Wild Life, Wild Plants, and Con­ser­va­tion of Nat­u­ral Ar­eas Law of 1994.
