Pris­oner caught after es­cap­ing In­sein hospi­tal dur­ing pro­ce­dure

A man sen­tenced to 40 years in prison un­der the drug law es­caped In­sein Hospi­tal but was caught on Novem­ber 1.

Ko Maw Si, aka Ko Kyi Aye, was be­ing treated for a fis­tula when, at 1am, he un­locked him­self from his bed.

Po­lice had a hunch he would head to Thazi town­ship in Man­dalay Re­gion and no­ti­fied au­thor­i­ties there.

On Novem­ber 1, at 5:40pm, while giv­ing a fake name at a lodg­ing house in Thazi town­ship, of­fi­cers showed up and ar­rested him.

He is charged un­der sec­tion 224 of the pe­nal code, for es­cap­ing de­ten­tion, and could face an ad­di­tional two years in prison.

Two friends and his wife are be­ing charged un­der sec­tion 225 of the pe­nal code, for aid­ing in the es­cape, and could face up to two years in prison as well.
