Prisoner caught after escaping Insein hospital during procedure
A man sentenced to 40 years in prison under the drug law escaped Insein Hospital but was caught on November 1.
Ko Maw Si, aka Ko Kyi Aye, was being treated for a fistula when, at 1am, he unlocked himself from his bed.
Police had a hunch he would head to Thazi township in Mandalay Region and notified authorities there.
On November 1, at 5:40pm, while giving a fake name at a lodging house in Thazi township, officers showed up and arrested him.
He is charged under section 224 of the penal code, for escaping detention, and could face an additional two years in prison.
Two friends and his wife are being charged under section 225 of the penal code, for aiding in the escape, and could face up to two years in prison as well.
