Boat flips over at wa­ter con­trol gate

A boat flipped over try­ing to pass un­der a wa­ter con­trol gate near Thongwa town­ship’s Ta Kaw vil­lage on Novem­ber 12, ac­cord­ing to po­lice.

The 10-pas­sen­ger, 22-foot-wide ves­sel, named Mother’s House, was be­ing driven in Ta Kaw Creek by Ko Tint Lwin Oo, 36. It was car­ry­ing five pas­sen­gers and about K1 mil­lion worth of goods. When they came to the wa­ter con­trol gate, four of the pas­sen­gers got out.

The boat failed to clear the gate and flipped over. Ko Tint Lwin Oo in­jured his foot and about half the goods were lost or dam­aged. Po­lice are charg­ing the cap­tain un­der sec­tion 280 of the pe­nal code, for rash nav­i­ga­tion of the ves­sel. He could spend up to six months in prison if con­victed.
