Boat flips over at water control gate
A boat flipped over trying to pass under a water control gate near Thongwa township’s Ta Kaw village on November 12, according to police.
The 10-passenger, 22-foot-wide vessel, named Mother’s House, was being driven in Ta Kaw Creek by Ko Tint Lwin Oo, 36. It was carrying five passengers and about K1 million worth of goods. When they came to the water control gate, four of the passengers got out.
The boat failed to clear the gate and flipped over. Ko Tint Lwin Oo injured his foot and about half the goods were lost or damaged. Police are charging the captain under section 280 of the penal code, for rash navigation of the vessel. He could spend up to six months in prison if convicted.
