Greek police fire tear gas at anti-Obama protesters
Greek police fired tear gas and stun grenades against protesters marching on central Athens where US President Barack Obama was making his last foreign trip as head of state. Some 2500 people brandishing banners denouncing US imperialism and claiming “Obama non grata”, or not welcome, were blocked from heading towards the site where Mr Obama met Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras. Demonstrations in central Athens were banned for the two-day visit by Mr Obama. The protesters, described by police as made up mostly of leftists with some 400 anarchists, set light to waste bins before eventually dispersing.
