Greek po­lice fire tear gas at anti-Obama pro­test­ers

Greek po­lice fired tear gas and stun grenades against pro­test­ers march­ing on cen­tral Athens where US Pres­i­dent Barack Obama was mak­ing his last for­eign trip as head of state. Some 2500 peo­ple bran­dish­ing ban­ners de­nounc­ing US im­pe­ri­al­ism and claim­ing “Obama non grata”, or not wel­come, were blocked from head­ing to­wards the site where Mr Obama met Greek Prime Min­is­ter Alexis Tsipras. Demon­stra­tions in cen­tral Athens were banned for the two-day visit by Mr Obama. The pro­test­ers, de­scribed by po­lice as made up mostly of left­ists with some 400 an­ar­chists, set light to waste bins be­fore even­tu­ally dis­pers­ing.
