Maha Myat Muni Pagoda museum slated for 2017 upgrade
THE Buddhism museum in Mandalay’s Maha Myat Muni Pagoda is slated to undergo major renovations in 2017, U Than Lwin, a pagoda trustee, said yesterday.
The exhibitions will soon include religious displays and displays related to the city of Mandalay, he said.
“Huge renovations are planned for the Buddhism museum,” he said. “We already have the budget for a good museum and we may get pagoda fund money and donations as well, therefore the necessary budget is nothing to be worried about.”
The master plan is currently being drawn up and the renovations will be the first in 36 years, he said.
“Almost all the necessary things have been done, except the master plan,” U Than Lwin said. “We will start renovations as soon as the plans are finished. We are preparing to form committees.”
Maha Myat Muni Pagoda is considered one of the country’s most sacred Buddhist shrines and the Ministry of Religious Affairs and Culture is tasked with protecting and developing the site.
