SPAIN wants stronger ties with ASEAN, Ambassador Jose Maria Matres Manso has said at a meeting with ASEAN Secretary General Le Luong Minh.

In congratulating Manso on his recent appointment to ASEAN, Minh welcomed Spain’s interest in exploring cooperation with the group in support of ASEAN community-building efforts and promoting ASEAN-EU relations.

Manso said his country attaches great importance to relations with ASEAN and regards it as an admirable regional organisation because of its positive contributions to the region’s development. He said Spain would seek to intensify its engagement with Asia, particularly South East Asia, through healthy diplomatic relations.

He expressed Spain’s readiness to work with ASEAN and its members on matters of common interest, such as implementation of the ASEAN-EU Plan of Action (2018-2022).
