Rus­sians fans asked to give blood a er player hu in match

A RUS­SIAN hockey team has asked fans to give blood to help a player who was badly hurt dur­ing a game.

Avan­gard Omsk for­ward Niko­lai Lem­tyu­gov suf­fered in­ter­nal in­juries after be­ing hurt in a Kon­ti­nen­tal Hockey League game Tues­day. He was rushed to the hospi­tal and had his spleen re­moved.

Avan­gard called on fans with the same blood type to come to the hospi­tal in the Siberian city of Omsk and do­nate to help Lem­tyu­gov re­cover.

The club pub­lished pic­tures yes­ter­day of fans and the club pres­i­dent ar­riv­ing to give blood. The club says Lem­tyu­gov is still in in­ten­sive care but is “sta­ble with no com­pli­ca­tions.”

After Lem­tyu­gov left the ice in the first pe­riod, Avan­gard lost to Barys As­tana of Kaza­khstan 4-3. –
