Keen in­ter­est for free English course in Magwe

THE num­ber of ap­pli­ca­tions for a two-year free English lan­guage pro­gram in cen­tral Myan­mar is dou­ble what it can ac­com­mo­date, a news re­port said.

The lan­guage train­ing pro­gram in Magwe, funded by the United States’ Ed­u­ca­tional and Cul­tural Af­fairs Bu­reau has re­ceived more than 100 ap­pli­ca­tions while it will take 50 trainees.

The pro­gram’s di­rec­tor Daw Htet Htet Win of English Ac­cess Mi­croschol­ar­ship Pro­gram said the course will be con­ducted at Op­por­tu­ni­ties English Lan­guage School in Magwe in Cen­tral Myan­mar.

“The ap­pli­cants should be be­tween 16 and 19 years old and must have passed the ma­tric­u­la­tion exam. The trainees must have keen in­ter­est to learn English. They have to at­tend the classes reg­u­larly. They will be pro­vided with fuel cost for their mo­tor bikes,” she was quoted as say­ing in the Myawaddy Daily last week.

The pro­gram has been con­ducted in other ma­jor towns and those who are out­stand­ing in the train­ing are sent to the US to par­tic­i­pate in ed­u­ca­tional sem­i­nars, at­tend uni­ver­si­ties and col­leges in the US.
