U SEIN Win, Pyithu Hluttaw MP of Maubin constituency, who had resigned from the National League for Democracy and submitted a request to the Union Election Commission (UEC) to be recognised as an independent MP, said that the commission approved his application after four months.

“I’ve received the Union Election Commission approbation on the 10 of this month. It confirmed my status as an independent MP,” he told The Myanmar Times on November 14.

“In accordance to the decision made during the (18/2017) meeting of the Union Election Commission on November 9, 2017, U Sein Win has been recognised as an independent MP,” reads UEC’s reply.

U Sein Win remarked that he was not satisfied with the commission’s performance as his request took four months to be processed.

“Suspending work for over three to four months is unsuitable. I don’t want to give any further comments,” he said.

He added that he had also applied to the commission to register a party named the “National United Democratic (NUD)”. He resigned from the NLD to freely carry out matters relating to the confiscation of farmers’ lands, he said.
