3,153 Hiluxes were sold in July, making it SA'S favourite vehicle while eclipsing its nearest bakkie competitor by 840 sales. This helped lift Toyota's new vehicle sales to 10,224, or 3,410 deliveries clear of the second-placed manufacturer. This equates to an overall market share of 22,7%. As Calvyn Hamman, Senior Vice President for Sales and Marketing points out, “what's more enlightening is that 23% of all dealer sales for the month can be attributed to a Toyota, Lexus or Hino, which means that every 4th vehicle sold, is one of ours." The belief that city cars are merely urban runabouts was recently shattered by two Finnish adventurers. In 16 days they drove 9,800km across South Africa, Namibia and Botswana. Jarmo Kymenlathi and Vesa Eskola chose a Datsun GO for their epic road trip and the car emerged unscathed from a tough schedule of about 613km a day on the road.
