Political leaders and academicians gathered in Kathmandu have asked to stop immediately the amendment process on the citizenship law - 2063 BS. At an interaction programme organised on Monday, participations have asked the lawmakers to withdraw the amendment bill tabled in the parliament for amendment of the citizenship law 2063. If the amendment bill is endorsed by the parliament, foreigners will easily get Nepali citizenship, they have remarked. Former justice of the Supreme Court Krishnajung Rayamajhi said that if the amendment bill is endorsed, there is possibility of misuse of Nepali citizenship by foreigners. Senior advocate Borna Bahadur Karki said that if Nepali citizenship is distributed on the basis of mirage, the situation will be beyond the control of the government. Former CIAA chief Surya Prasad Upadhaya said that citizenship should not be distributed by deploying citizenship distribution team. If the government will continue to practice distributing citizenship to foreigners, soon, Nepal may lose its identity. Former Attorney General Dr Yubraj Khatiwada said that citizenship should not be distributed to the foreigners unless the nation will become strong. The citizenship distribution issue is aimed at separating tarai from Nepal, Khatiwada said. Border expert Buddhinarayn Shrestha said that the citizenship issue cannot be resolved unless regulation of the open borders with India. Shrestha suggested to construct fence in NepalIndia international borders. Former prime minister and CPN's senior leader JN Khanal said that the bill registered in the parliament to amend the citizenship law is defective. National People's Front's

leader Chitra Bahadur KC said that amendment on the citizenship law is a grand design to merge Nepal into India. General secretary of the CPN ML, CP Mainali said that if the amendment bill is endorsed by the parliament, it will invite crisis on existence of the nation.
