Dear ACCESS readers

ACCESS Magazine - - LETTER FROM THE EDITOR - Sally Squirrell

What a Summer it has been for sun, fun and music and, of course, if you were at a festival the usual mudbath that is a Summer festival. It’s not too late to get to one as Summer turns to Autumn. Music brings internationals together and not only gets those hips moving but helps us understand the culture of another nation. Getting to know why someone loves Blues, a crazily named band or a new type of sound can spring your friendship to new heights. At ACCESS, we took advantage of our writers’ love of music and mixed a medley of musically themed articles. Discover talented singer-songwriters at the latest of the year’s festivals and refresh with a taste of Dutch craft beer. As the season changes, combine a discover trip of new beer with a trip south to find new places in the Netherlands. Music has relaxing and soothing qualities as well as educational aspects but did you know it can also be used as therapy? Our Counsellors inform us how music can provide therapy for more curative purposes. Pick up some tips for improving your memory by learning a language; with so many new techniques for learning, you can’t fail to find a method that suits you. Then the step from your mother tongue through Dutch to Afrikaans to converse with our featured community, of South Africans, will be even easier. Our partners move to every beat from slow to lively tempos and inform us how music helps to expand the brain and the body. So with a spring in your step, dance into Autumn with whatever tune takes your fancy. We wish you happy leaf catching!
