Crossing the Ditch

Adventure - - News And Views -

Crossing the Ditch is about two young Aussie mates- James Castrission and Justin Jones who are about to become the first ever expedition to kayak unsupported, from Australia to New Zealand. This will be the longest trans oceanic crossing ever done in a double kayak- a distance of some 2500km in the open water- it is expected to take 45-55 days. Through realising a childhood dream and committing themselves to one of “Australia’s last great” adventures, they wish to inspire others to overcome fear and pursue their own adventures and dreams- they are raising funds for the Sydney Children’s Hospital. The planning of this expedition started 18 months ago, and after a successful crossing of Bass Strait in a traditional double kayak in March of this year (350km), the boys have committed full time to the project. They have come up with a unique kayak design that has a small cabin which they are confident can withstand the battering they will receive on the Tasman. NZ Adventure Magazine has recently jumped on board and they are now looking for other corporations to sponsor this world first.
