Over-65s go flatting

Auckland City Harbour News - - News -

Two new residents are needed for a Sandringham house providing “flatting for oldies.”

Eleven over-65s live together in the two-storey home, supported by a housekeeper.

An open day will be held on Saturday for older people interested in taking one of two vacant rooms.

It was built by the Abbeyfield incorporated society in 2006 on land gifted by Auckland City Council.

Committee member Norma Gordonsays it’s ideal for older people who are lonely but want to remain independent.

“It’s a lovely place and the people are very happy there,” she says.

Rent is $310 a week, which includes meals and the cost of a housekeeper and cook.

Residents have private rooms and a guest suite is available for family and friends.

The open day is on Saturday between 9am and noon, and 1pm and 4pm, at 6 Carrie St, Sandringham.
