Fairfax sponsors hall
Fairfax Media – publishers of this newspaper – has become the naming sponsor of Enterprise New Zealand Trust’s business hall of fame.
Since being formed in 1994 the hall of fame has elected 92 members who have helped shape New Zealand’s economic development.
The first of eight members for the 2008 Fairfax Media New Zealand Business Hall of Fame will be announced in May and they will be admitted at a gala evening on July 16.
At present the hall is a gallery on the trust’s website but it will soon become a permanent display at Auckland University’s new business school.
Trust chairman Tony Caughey says the trust promotes an enterprise culture among school students and the hall plays an important role in that by celebrating business excellence.
“To achieve recognition members must have demonstrated how wealth is created and also have made a significant contribution to society.
“We are delighted to have the country’s leading media company as the naming sponsor because media plays an important role in covering business,” Mr Caughey says.
Fairfax Media chief executive Joan Withers says the trust’s work enhances the potential supply of business leaders.
“We have set ourselves the goal of being the preferred source of information when people want insightful coverage and commentary on what is happening in the markets, business and the economy,” she says.
