People interested in researching victims’ issues can apply for a new scholarship.

Victim Support is offering the country’s first scholarship to advance research into victims’ rights.

The Dave Smith Memorial Research Scholarship offers up to $10,000 a year to support research.

The scholarship is named after the late police chief inspector Dave Smith, a Victim’s Task Force member and Victim Support board member, who died in 2004.

Victim Support acting chief executive Heather Verry says research specific to victims in New Zealand is limited.

The scholarship is open to postgraduate students, research institutes and organisations that work with victims.

Applications close on October 1 and an application form is available from www. victimsupport.org.nz.
