Gala con­certo re­turns

Auck­land Univer­sity mu­sic stu­dents are gear­ing up for the sec­ond Grad­u­a­tion Gala Con­certo Com­pe­ti­tion.

The con­cert and com­pe­ti­tion are part of the univer­sity’s 125th an­niver­sary cel­e­bra­tions.

The night will fea­ture solo per­for­mances by mu­sic school vir­tu­osos Wendy Huang and Hao Chen on pi­ano and Amalia Hall on vi­o­lin. The con­cert will be con­ducted by Harry Lyth from Ber­lin.

Ad­ju­di­ca­tors will se­lect win­ners of a $3000 first prize, $1500 sec­ond prize and third prize of $500.

School of Mu­sic head pro­fes­sor Robert Con­sta­ble says the re­sponse to last year’s event was ex­tra­or­di­nary and he is de­lighted it is go­ing ahead again this year.

“The gala con­cert is a won­der­ful way to unite the univer­sity and com­mu­nity and al­low the tal­ents of our young mu­si­cians to truly shine.”
