Gala concerto returns
Auckland University music students are gearing up for the second Graduation Gala Concerto Competition.
The concert and competition are part of the university’s 125th anniversary celebrations.
The night will feature solo performances by music school virtuosos Wendy Huang and Hao Chen on piano and Amalia Hall on violin. The concert will be conducted by Harry Lyth from Berlin.
Adjudicators will select winners of a $3000 first prize, $1500 second prize and third prize of $500.
School of Music head professor Robert Constable says the response to last year’s event was extraordinary and he is delighted it is going ahead again this year.
“The gala concert is a wonderful way to unite the university and community and allow the talents of our young musicians to truly shine.”
The concert is at 7.30pm on Friday, May 9, at the Auckland Town Hall. For information call 373-7599, ext 87707.
