Short film awards open

Young film­mak­ers are be­ing given their chance to shine.

En­tries are open for the fifth an­nual Youth­town Short Film Chal­lenge for 13 to 18 year-olds.

A new award this year will be given for best doc­u­men­tary, as well as awards for act­ing, di­rect­ing, mu­sic, cin­e­matog­ra­phy, edit­ing, scriptwrit­ing and best film.

Com­pe­ti­tion or­gan­iser Jewelz Pet­ley says the level of en­tries has gone up a notch each year since the com­pe­ti­tion started and she is ex­pect­ing the same to hap­pen this year.

“There seems to be no short­age of tal­ent out there and we’re de­lighted to be help­ing bring it for­ward.”

En­tries must be re­ceived by July 25.

Youth­town will be hold­ing short film work­shops ev­ery Satur­day be­tween May 10 and June 28 at its cen­tral Auck­land hub in Nelson St.
