Great work

Auckland City Harbour News - - Opinion - KEN BRADDON Blockhouse Bay

It was great to read your article There’s life in the old girl yet (Auckland City Harbour News, March 26).

I was fortunate to be at Motat on one of the recent test days and to see this magnificent machinery finally restored to its original specification was amazing.

All the hard work by Ken Pointon and Mike Austin and many unnamed volunteers over many years has finally paid off.

Perhaps if the people responsible for Motat’s recent fire which destroyed an historic railway carriage worked at Motat they might just realise how important the museum’s work really is.

At a recent supervised school visit the interest and fascination of many very young children who really appreciated what they had seen was quite obvious – New Zealand’s history and heritage preserved for the benefit of future generations to nurture and maintain.
